2019. The Brian Complex
In 2019, the students constructed a sculpture titles "The Brain Complex." Each component of this four-piece sculpture represents one of the four lobes of the brain. Each lobe contains a peep hole allowing visitors to peer inside to find artistic representations of some of the chemical processes that occur in the brain. For example, one lobe features a structural abstraction of the chemical reactions of tyrosine, while in another LED lights and infinity mirrors are suggestive of the communication between neurons and the creation of an action potential down the neuron. Each lobe also featured a small plaque displaying a brief description of the chemical process and a QR code linked to additional details on the sculpture and the chemical processes represented.
